IMPORTANCE OF WASTE MANAGEMENT IN OUR SOCIETY

>

We often termed unwanted or unusable materials as Waste. A thing becomes a waste when it cannot be used no longer or when it becomes worthless, or when it breaks. As a result of the population explosion of this era, waste materials accumulated in our environment is increasing day by day.
377 million people living in the urban area in India generate about 62 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) every year. About 43 million tons (70%) of this only we collect and 11.9 million tons (20%) is treated in waste management plants.

About 43 million tons (70%) of this only we collect and 11.9 million tons (20%) is treated in waste management plants. The sad thing is that about 31 million tons (50%) is dumped in our landfill sites.
Not only the landfill sites which are meant for dumping waste, but also the waste is accumulated everywhere, like roadsides, rivers, sea, oceans etc.
The toxic chemicals contained in the waste materials, and the toxic substances released by the waste materials after years of dumping, are very dangerous to the health of human beings, plants and animals. If we do not properly dispose of these, it has the potential to pollute our food and water and endanger the health and safety of the public.s (50%) is dumped in our landfill sites.
Nowadays people are more conscious about the ill effect of improper waste management and its after effect on their health.
Microplastics have been detected in water around the world, including our rivers, streams, oceans, lakes. At the end the microplastics reach the water we drink and the fish we eat, including shellfish.
Not only does following waste management activities help to keep the environment clean, but it also makes our common people’s health standards better..when the wastes are properly disposed of,we get a cleaner environment, that means there are fewer health risks and hazards around to affect us.

Proper waste management reduces the after effect of accumulating waste on the environment, and so on. Waste management helps us to reuse or recycle our resources, such as cans, paper, glass, plastic bottles, and so on.
There are various types of waste management methods that give solutions for the disposal of solid, liquid, gaseous or hazardous substances. Different kinds of waste require different methods for disposal and are usually handled by someone with the expertise in that field.
